MIDLAND, MI — Leading Edge Logistics of Philadelphia, PA, has announced a new plan of support for Northwood University’s Aftermarket Management program.
Leading Edge is a third party logistics (3PL) supplier to both aftermarket and OEM automotive suppliers. The company announced it will provide support to Northwood’s Aftermarket Program in two different forms:
The establishment of the Albert Torcomian Scholarship to help undergraduates who are entering the Aftermarket Management degree program;
Funds for the development of a complete introductory course in Supply Chain Management, taught as part of Northwood’s BBA degree program.
“We believe that it is essential that our industry have a pool of qualified undergrads to draw from in tomorrows’ logistics field,” said Tom Torcomian, president and founder of Leading Edge. “Supply chain management becomes more critical every time another part is sourced offshore, or components are outsourced. When I was in school, logistics was nothing but an odd elective course. Now the function has moved to the forefront of the automotive business. Supply chain management is becoming more complex every day,” he continued.
“We are especially excited because the Supply Chain Management course will also be available online, for people already working in the field, or for those who want a good general orientation in logistics,” said Torcomian.
“We are happy to be able to partner with Leading Edge, whose name really says it all,” said Jim John, Chair of the Automotive Management program at Northwood. “Northwood undergrads will be uniquely qualified to understand the physical movement of parts thorough the entire automotive system.”
The Albert Torcomian Scholarship will be awarded as part of the Global Automotive Aftermarket Scholarship (GAAS) fund, which provides a central source for aftermarket related student tuition assistance.
