John Nodson Named Vice President of Market Research for The Marx Group

Respected aftermarket leader will help the agency expand market research offerings. Nodson joins The Marx Group after a 35-year career with SMP.

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – John Nodson has been named vice president of market research for The Marx Group.  Nodson, who enjoyed a 35-year career with Standard Motor Products in various leadership roles, has been with The Marx Group since 2009 as a market and strategy specialist.

Tom Marx, president and CEO of The Marx Group, said the new role for Nodson provides the company with a dedicated leader to expand its market research department. The Marx Group utilizes primary research, focus groups and online studies, and works with major data providers to help clients select the right information to incorporate into customized data reports.

"John is a highly respected industry professional who understands the vital role of data research for making informed strategic marketing and business development decisions. With his experience in the automotive, heavy duty and commercial vehicle markets, clients benefit from his broad knowledge of the industry," said Marx.

“John also brings added value to Marx Group Advisors, which provides merger and acquisition consulting services to the aftermarket," Marx added. "Research is an important role in order to support clients with the search for the right acquisition or sale candidate.”

Nodson started at Standard Motor Products in 1974 as a territory sales manager. After eight years in that role, he served for six years as the marketing manager for the company’s Champ Service Line division of accessory products. From 1988 to 1998, he was director of marketing and retail/special market sales manager for the company’s full line EIS Brake division. From 1998 until he left the company in 2009, he acted as director of marketing and as business development manager for the Engine Management division.

He earned an MBA from the University of Utah in 1982, and holds a B.S. degree in business from the College of Business Administration at California State University, Long Beach.

In addition to his role with The Marx Group, Nodson is the president of Sagacious Advisor Group (SAG). SAG works with management of select companies by becoming part of their team to help overcome challenges, take advantage of timely opportunities and develop new businesses.
