Harvick to Show Support for Earth Day on No. 29 Car

Trunk lid's new look at Phoenix race to help spread message of motor oil recycling.

WELCOME, N.C. – To help spread the word about the importance of used motor oil recycling, Richard Childress Racing (RCR) and Pennzoil are working together to raise awareness around the Pennzoil Clean Change Campaign in a special way. This Saturday, as Americans look forward to Earth Day, the deck lid of Kevin Harvick’s No. 29 Shell-Pennzoil car will feature the Pennzoil Clean Change Campaign logo and website (www.CleanChange.org) during the NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Phoenix International Raceway.

The Pennzoil Clean Change Campaign is a nationwide initiative that encourages Do-It-Yourself oil changers to recycle their used motor oil and help maintain a clean environment. Improper disposal of the used oil from just one oil change can potentially contaminate up to one million gallons of drinking water. It is estimated that 185 million gallons of used motor oil is improperly disposed of each year in the U.S. — dumped on the ground, tossed in the trash or poured down storm sewers and drains.

“Proper disposal of used motor oil is vital to the environment, so increasing awareness of the Pennzoil Clean Change Campaign during a week when everyone is focused on the environment is very important,” said Kevin Harvick. “Clean drinking water is essential to our health, so I’m proud to be teaming up with Pennzoil to promote steps we can all take to help keep our water clean and protect our environment.”

The root of the Pennzoil Clean Change Campaign is a pledge that Do-It-Yourself oil changers are encouraged to make, to promise to properly recycle used motor oil. Consumers can visit the campaign website www.cleanchange.org to make the pledge, test their environmental prowess and easily locate a certified used oil recycling facility near them.

“We have worked hard to formulate Pennzoil motor oil to help clean up sludge in engines, so taking the next step and helping keep America’s drinking water clean by promoting proper used oil recycling is a clear means for us to help make a difference,” said Troy Chapman, marketing team leader for Pennzoil. “We thank Kevin Harvick and Richard Childress Racing for helping us to make a visible statement as we implement the Pennzoil Clean Change Campaign around the country and do our part to help the environment.”

Use of the deck lid during the April 18th NASCAR Sprint Cup race is just a part of the Pennzoil Clean Change efforts continuing throughout the year to help raise awareness of the importance of recycling used motor oil. Throughout the season, RCR and Pennzoil hope to gather more than 100,000 online pledges.
