LEXINGTON, KY — Naveen Gupta will join Ashland Inc. as director of global heavy duty, OEM and emerging markets for the company’s Valvoline International business. The new position will be effective Oct. 1, according to Craig Moughler, senior vice president and managing director, Valvoline International. Currently, Gupta serves as managing director of Valvoline Cummins Limited, a joint venture partnership in India.
Gupta will be responsible for managing all of Valvoline’s heavy duty business worldwide as well as its global OEM business, and will continue to provide strategic direction to the Indian joint venture as its managing director. Gupta will relocate from New Delhi, India, to Valvoline’s worldwide headquarters in Lexington, KY.
According to Moughler, Gupta will have a strong influence over development of business in emerging markets such as China, Brazil, Russia and Africa.
“He has proven his ability to quickly build successful businesses in less mature markets,” said Moughler. “We’ll use that ability to help us penetrate these markets.”
Gupta joined the Valvoline Cummins Limited joint venture partnership in 1996 as senior vice president of finance, and took over as the chief executive officer in October 1998. He achieved his most recent role of managing director in May 2004.
Gupta received his bachelor’s degree in commerce from Sri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi University, India, in 1978, and a chartered accountant degree from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India in 1982. Prior to moving into the industry, he worked as a consultant with Ernst & Young in the Middle East.
