EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Accuride Corp. has announced the introduction of the Gunite Silver Lightweight Brake Drum from its Accuride Wheel End Solutions brand. 
According to Accuride, the new Silver Lightweight Brake Drum (designated 4000X) provides commercial vehicle original equipment manufacturers and fleets with an affordable high-strength, lightweight full-cast brake drum as an alternative to lightweight steel-shell drums, while improving durability and performance at the reduced weight. The brake drums are 100-percent made in the U.S., cast and machined at Gunite’s Rockford, Ill., facility.
With the launch of its Silver Lightweight Brake Drum, Accuride says the Gunite brand has addressed the market niche between its 9006X GOLD lightweight premium drum and the 3600A X full-cast standard drum. It utilizes engineered design enhancements and advanced metallurgy to affordably achieve a 12.5-lb. weight savings over standard full-cast drums. To do this without compromising performance, Gunite’s engineers have utilized a high-strength gray iron featuring improved mechanical and structural material characteristics.
