Diesel Engine Seminars Highlight 2010 BIG R Show

Seminar topics include 'Rebuilding and Machining Cat Diesels to Compete with OEM Dealers' and 'Diesel Engines: Common Failures and Repair Strategies.'

CHANTILLY, Va. — Plans are well underway for the 2010 International BIG R Show to be held at The Las Vegas Hilton Hotel on Oct. 30-Nov. 1, 2010 in Las Vegas, just prior to the AAPEX and SEMA Shows. The Automotive Parts Remanufacturers Association (APRA) and event co-sponsor Engine Builder magazine are proud to offer a technical track for the diesel engine market.

"Today’s engine builders continue to look for ways to expand and improve their businesses," says Dave Wooldridge, publisher of Engine Builder magazine. "The technical seminars we are hosting at the APRA BIG R Show will benefit both experienced diesel engine builders as well as those looking to expand into various opportunities that exist within this market segment."

The population of diesel engines is growing and aging, offering increasing future opportunities in the aftermarket for engine remanufacturers and their parts and equipment suppliers, and the BIG R Show will be the venue at which these opportunities can be explored by the industry.

To help promote the sales, educational and networking opportunities offered through the Diesel Engine Program and Exhibit Section of this year’s International BIG R Show, Engine Builder magazine invites all engine builders to attend the 2010 International Big R Show at no charge.

The schedule of engine seminars, running from 9:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30, will include:

• "Rebuilding and Machining Cat Diesels to Compete with OEM Dealers" and "Diesel Engines: Common Failures and Repair Strategies," presented by David Bianchi, B&G Machine, Seattle, Wash. Bianchi is vice president, sales and marketing of B&G Machine. With a bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering from Gonzaga University, Bianchi brings unique technical insight to the company’s sales and marketing efforts. He has successfully orchestrated a growth path that has seen B&G Machine’s operations go from local to international.

• "Extending Rebuilt Diesel Engine Life Through Proper Cooling System Maintenance and Analysis," presented by Mike Goodhart, Penray. Goodhart has been with Nalco/Penray for 36 years, gaining expertise with cooling system and fuel related issues with the trucking, rail, marine, mining as well as stationary power. He is currently a member of the Technology and Maintenance Council (TMC) of the American Trucking Association (ATA) and has experience dealing with technicians and how they test and maintain the truck coolants.

• "The Future of Diesel Motorsports Panel Discussion/Roundtable," moderated by Ron Knoch, National Association of Diesel Motorsports (NADM), Kansas City, Mo. NADM promotes and is open to all diesel motorsports associations, clubs and events and holds a number of national events — including diesel drag racing, sled pulling and dyno competitions, as well as exhibitions and show-n-shine vehicles. This panel discussion will include leading diesel performance providers including Brady Williams of Industrial Injection, Salt Lake City, Utah; Zane Koch, Wide Open Performance, Sandy, Utah; and Guy Tripp, SoCal Diesel, Valencia, Calif.

• "Detecting and Preventing Early Engine Failure Through Proper Oil and Filter Analysis" presented by Danny Sparling, senior partner and mechanical/reliability engineer at the oil analysis lab, Reliability Group in Belle Fourche, S.D. Sparling is a gear head, has built and raced high performance engines since high school and is an experienced road racer and SCCA autocross racer. He worked in the oil industry offshore in Louisiana for several years with Schlumberger as a Cased Hole Wireline Engineer. He started working in Reliability with Michelin Tire in 1999 (three years) and has been in the mining industry ever since. His experience as a maintenance and reliability engineer and manager in large mining applications has focused on mobile mining equipment — haul trucks, blades, scraper, dozer, loaders, draglines and shovels.
