DANBURY, Conn. Autolite recently selected the 35 winners of its first Counterperson Challenge, awarding cash prizes totaling more than $10,000. The interactive, online challenge, which ran February through April 2011, was created to educate men and women behind the counter about the technological differences between spark plugs and the intricacies of complex ignition systems. Participants gained insight into how to convey this knowledge to customers and translate it into sales through the information presented in three training modules.
“Autolite developed the Counterperson Challenge to educate counter people about the advances in spark plug technology,” said James Cito, Autolite product manager. “In the future, we hope to continue to implement new and beneficial engine information within the curriculum to reinforce Autolite’s dedication to the counterperson community.”
Challenge participants spanned from employees at large chain auto stores to small, independently owned shops. After completing three online training modules designed to enhance understanding of ignition systems participants were entered into a drawing and 35 counter people were selected as winners. Five grand-prize winners each received a $1,000 American Express Gift Card, 10 first-place winners each received a $500 American Express Gift Card, and 20 second-place winners each received a $100 American Express Gift Card.
