Modine CEO Rings Bell Today To Begin Trading on NYSE

Modine President and CEO David Rayburn rang the bell this morning to open trading on The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) celebrating the start of trading of Modine common stock on the NYSE. Modine common stock will be traded under the new ticker symbol “MOD.” The company transferred its common stock to the NYSE on October 14 from the NASDAQ where it had been traded under the ticker symbol “MODI.” Yesterday, Modine CEO Dave Rayburn and CFO Brad Richardson conducted a conference call from the NYSE to discuss the company’s fiscal 2005 second quarter results, which included net income more than tripling, and sales increasing 30 percent versus the comparable 2003 quarter.

Gateway, Snap-on Receive Auto Technician Grant; Money Is Part of U.S. Effort to Boost Mechanic Industry

Gateway Technical College and Snap-on Inc. received a $900,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Labor Wednesday as part of a nationwide effort to develop programs to increase the number of automotive technicians. The money will be used to develop a Web-based tutorial for more than 500 secondary and post-secondary instructors and schools attempting to get nationally certified.

SKF/Chicago Rawhide Receives Award for Land Donation Toward Technology Center

SKF/CR recently received the Oklahoma Association of Technical Centers Partners For Progress award for its donation of land for a Western Technology Center (WTC) campus in Hobart, Okla. The Partners For Progress award is designed to recognize businesses and industries that have made outstanding contributions to the improvement, promotion, development and progress of career and technology centers.

Keystone Suspends Headlamp Sales

Auto replacement parts distributor Keystone Automotive Industries Inc. said Friday that it suspended the sale of aftermarket headlamps for the Ford Taurus and the General Motors Pontiac Grand Am as a result of independent tests that indicate these headlamps do not fully comply with federal standards.

Cooper Earnings Fall In Third Quarter

Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. (CTB) posted sharply lower third-quarter earnings Thursday as a result of restructuring charges associated with the sale of its automotive group. Cooper said profits for the period ended Sept. 30 fell to $9.9 million, or 13 cents a share, from earnings of $17.8 million, or 24 cents a share, for the same quarter last year.

2005 Automotive News Pace Award Finalists Named

More than 30 automotive suppliers have been named finalists in the 11th annual Automotive News PACE Award competition. Open to suppliers that contribute products, processes, materials or services directly to the manufacture of cars or trucks, the PACE (Premier Automotive Suppliers’ Contribution to Excellence) Award is presented by Automotive News, Capgemini and Transportation Research Center Inc. (TRC Inc.). Judges selected 23 finalists and 10 honorable mention awardees based on extensive written responses to the 2005 PACE Award application. Finalists will now host site visits by industry, academic and business leaders to select the winners, which will be announced in April during the Society of Automotive Engineers conference in Detroit. Judges will evaluate each company’s innovation as well as its management team.

Advance Auto Parts has announced record results for its third quarter, which ended on Oct. 9, with comparable store sales increasing by 3 percent and earnings per diluted share increasing to 68 cents.
