OBITUARY: Samuel M. Kitchin

He was chairman of the board of Kitchin and Sons Inc., a fourth-generation, family owned manufacturers' representative agency headquartered in Richmond, Ind.

RICHMOND, Ind. – Samuel M. Kitchin, 87, of Richmond, died April 10, 2012 at Reid Hospital. He was born Feb. 12, 1925, in Richmond to Harry G. and M. Anita Ludington Kitchin and lived here all his life.
 
He was chairman of the board of Kitchin and Sons Inc. and a Navy veteran of World War II. Sam was a graduate of the University of Notre Dame. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and a recipient of the National Catholic Educational Association Distinguished Graduate Award.

He was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He served as Vice Chairman of the Board of Second National Bank and a member of the Board of West End Savings and Loan.
 
Sam loved his Lord, his wife, his family and his church. Survivors include his wife of 64 years Jo Ann, four sons Tom (Cheryl) Kitchin, Tim (Nancy) Kitchin, Mark (Carmie) Kitchin, and Bill (Debbie) Kitchin of Richmond, nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
 
He is preceded in death by his daughter Nancy Kitchin, his parents, and one brother, Robert. Liturgy of Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday April 14, 2012 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Rev. Todd Riebe officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, with military rites. Friends may call 4-7 p.m. Friday at Stegall-Berheide-Orr Funeral Home.
 
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to Seton Catholic Schools c/o Richmond Catholic Office, 240 S. 6th Street Richmond, Indiana 47374.
