BRUSSELS, Belgium — WABCO Holdings Inc., a global technology leader and tier-one supplier to the commercial vehicle industry, announced that its Brazilian division has been honored with ZF South America’s first Sustainability Award.

This new award acknowledges the supplier with the best performance in sustainable practices, as defined by ZF, a leading worldwide automotive supplier for driveline and chassis technology with production companies in 26 countries and headquartered in Germany.

To qualify for this special inaugural award, ZF’s suppliers must have environmental management systems certified as ISO 14001 compliant as well as Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series (OHSAS) 18001 certification. In addition, suppliers must demonstrate strong results in at least four out of five areas that ZF defines as its sustainability pillars: environment, society, education, culture and sports.

"ZF encourages and promotes sustainable actions based on our company’s responsibility for society and the environment," said Kelen Reis, human resources director, ZF South America. "ZF’s Sustainability Award recognizes commitment to the present and the future of the planet, and WABCO is the winner of our 2011 award due to their outstanding actions that demonstrate environmental preservation and social development."

"WABCO is proud to support ZF South America’s high standards for sustainability through our innovative technologies that help make commercial vehicles more efficient, cleaner and greener," said Reynaldo Contreira, WABCO South America Business Leader. "ZF’s 2011 Sustainability Award is also a major acknowledgement of WABCO’s passion for reaching out to local communities as our employees help people in need, especially children, through our social, educational and cultural programs in Brazil."
