OBITUARY: Remo Corghi, President of the Nexion Group

Remo Corghi was a daily presence in the business, next to his collaborators, from directors to factory workers, supporting and motivating them with his humor and attending all the most important initiatives of the Nexion Group.

CORREGIO, Reggio Emilia, Italy – Remo Corghi, president of the Nexion Group, died suddenly July 30, at the age of 81.

Beginning in 1947, he started working with his brother Erminio and in 1954 they foundedCorghi Elettromeccanica in Correggio, a small town within the district of Reggio Emilia, Italy. The firm has showed big creativity in various fields, developing innovative products as TV voltage stabilizer, agricultural machineries, household appliances and mechano-textile equipment.

At the end of the 1950s, when in Italy the automobile boom exploded, Corghi entered into the vehicle assistance sector with a revolutionary wheel balancer. In 1961, Erminio Corghi invented “Artiglio,” the first tire changer in the history, which opened the doors to a new product segment and gave birth in Correggio to the famous “tire changer district.” The product was so innovative that Corghi needed to extend its distribution network worldwide. And it was exactly in this field that Remo made his contributions.

Since then, the company has never stopped growing, developing complete lines of products for the wheel service segment, including tire changers, wheel balancers, wheel aligners, lifters, tools for technical control and vehicle diagnosis, becoming one of the leading companies in this sector worldwide.

After the death of Erminio in 1968, Remo together with his sister-in-law Maria and his niece Giuliana shared in the activities of consolidating and developing the company, and in 1973 converted the business to an S.p.A.

In 1984, Remo was nominated to be president of Corghi S.p.A., and gradually, Erminio’s other children entered the business. After the death of Giuliana in 1989, the oldest daughter of Erminio who was already CEO, all of the second-generation Corghi children entered into the board of directors led by the President Remo.

The commitment and the devotion of the whole family, together with Remo’s charisma, led the firm’s development and founded the Nexion Group, the family holding, which controls all of the companies acquired and created in order to strengthen the business in the vehicle assistance sector.

Remo’s entrepreneurship and prudence has continued to guide Nexion through ambitious objectives that enabled the Group to open direct commercial branches in Germany, France and the U.S., and new production plants in Italy and China.

Remo Corghi was a daily presence in the business, next to his collaborators, from directors to factory workers, supporting and motivating them with his humor and attending all the most important initiatives of the Group.

The last of these initiatives was the Nexion School for lifters. Nexion was inaugurated personally by Remo last May in Prato di Correggio, showcasing a new product line in which the group is investing great resources.

Remo Corghi leaves to his daughter, nephews and grandsons a moral inheritance that will be the foundation on which the Nexion Board of Directors will be engaged to continue and to develop the work begun by him and Erminio, in order to remain one of the leading companies in the vehicle equipment industry.
