NGK Spark Plugs (U.S.A.) Inc. and its Associates Donate $25,000 to Red Cross Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Relief Fund

Funds raised through a dollar-for-dollar matching donation program.

WIXOM, Mich. — Shortly after the devastating 8.9 magnitude earthquake and tsunami that hit northern Japan March 11, Richard Sullivan, vice president and CAO of NGK Spark Plugs (U.S.A.) Inc., called for a plan of action to encourage employees to make donations to the Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Relief Fund set up by the American Red Cross. He pledged that NGK would match those donations dollar for dollar.

“We have many friends and colleagues in Japan. It is important to help in this time of need,” Sullivan said.

In total, NGK and its associates have donated $25,000 to the relief fund.

Sullivan said he is proud of the donations for the Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Relief fund.

“Associates far exceeded expectations,” he said. “This is an absolutely amazing accomplishment. We have a great team and a great family.”

“Fortunately, there were no reports of deaths or injuries to any NGK associates in Japan or their families, but many more citizens of Japan are in need,” he added.

NGK says it is also thankful to announce that none of its facilities in Japan were damaged; however, some NGK suppliers were affected, and NGK is working closely with them to keep the supply chain intact.

Hideyuki Koiso, president and CEO of NGK Spark Plugs (U.S.A.) Inc., also commented on the situation.

“Some companies were not as fortunate as NGK; therefore, we are still analyzing the full impact this has all had to our customers,” Koiso said. “We pledge to work closely to ensure uninterrupted supply.”

NGK says it is very saddened by the effects of this disaster and hopes the donation will relieve even a small amount of stress for the people of Japan. There will also be further monetary donations from NGK Spark Plug CO., LTD. and other affiliate companies to support recovery efforts in the region.

According to the official American Red Cross website, as of Tuesday, March 29, the organization has collected more than $120 million to assist survivors of the Japan earthquake and tsunami.
