Advance Auto Parts Raises More than $4.8 Million in 2010 for Diabetes Research

Campaign brings company total raised for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation to more than $25 million.

ROANOKE, Va. — Advance Auto Parts announced it raised more than $4.8 million for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) in support of diabetes research in 2010. This year marks Advance’s 17th consecutive year of support for JDRF in the search to find a cure for type 1 diabetes. As a national JDRF corporate partner, Advance has raised more than $25 million to date for JDRF over the 17 year partnership.

“The Advance Auto Parts Team is proud to be a national partner of JDRF, and we are thrilled to have been able to donate over $25 million since 1994 to its race to cure diabetes,” said Darren Jackson, CEO of Advance Auto Parts. “Supporting JDRF is an important part of our company culture and the national campaign is an opportunity for our Team Members to give back to the communities in which they live and work. We appreciate the tremendous participation from both our do-it-yourself and commercial customers, as well as our vendor partners.”

Throughout the year, Advance Team Members and customers are tireless in their efforts in support of diabetes research. Every September, the company holds a JDRF “sneaker” sales program in more than 3,500 stores in 39 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Customers purchase paper “sneakers” for $1, $5, $25 and $50, and they are then displayed in the store windows to show support for this worthwhile cause.

Proceeds from every sneaker sold go directly to JDRF and help bring the organization one step closer to finding a cure. Through the generosity of Advance Auto Parts customers through the sneaker campaign, team members at its Store Support Center in Roanoke, Va., regional offices and in distribution centers across the country participating in local Walk to Cure Diabetes events, hosting golf tournaments, silent auctions and other fundraisers, Advance was able to set a new annual record of $4.8 million for JDRF.

“JDRF is grateful to Advance Auto Parts, its customers and team members for 17 years of dedicated support to improving the lives of people with type 1 diabetes today and in the future,” said Jeffrey Brewer, president and CEO of JDRF. “Through their support, research funded by JDRF continues to lead toward better treatments, and eventually a cure for type 1 diabetes.”
