AMRA Annual Member Meeting Set for Las Vegas

The annual meeting, to be held at the Monte Carlo Hotel and Casino, kicks off Automotive Industry Week.

FALLS CHURCH, Va. — The Automotive Maintenance and Repair Association (AMRA) and the Motorist Assurance Program (MAP), the consumer outreach program of AMRA, will host its annual fall membership meeting Monday, Nov. 1, in Las Vegas.

The annual meeting, to be held at the Monte Carlo Hotel and Casino, kicks off Automotive Industry Week. Several industry trade shows will be held during the week of Nov. 2-5, including AAPEX and SEMA.

AMRA’s annual meeting will begin at 8 a.m. with a continental breakfast, followed by the general business portion of the meeting. This will include the installation of new board members and updates from various committees.

After a networking break, featured speaker Frank Borris will take the podium. Borris, the senior defect engineer for the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) within the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), will discuss NHTSA and the agency’s roles and responsibilities, including defects investigations and recall management.

Borris began his government career with the Federal Transit Administration in 1990 before coming to NHTSA in 1997. He began with ODI as a safety defects engineer and has conducted numerous investigations involving visibility, occupant protection, fuel system integrity, electrical fires, suspension and power train.

Borris is also responsible for the development and maintenance of ODI’s information system, Artemis, which is used by ODI to collect and analyze safety defect complaints and information from consumers and the automotive industry. In June 2009, Borris was appointed the director of the $3 billion CARS (Cash for Clunkers) program that resulted in the sale of nearly 680,000 new, more fuel-efficient vehicles.

Following the conclusion of the meeting, all attendees are invited to remain for a Networking Luncheon.

There is a cost for attending the meeting and luncheon; for more information, visit the meeting link at www.amra.org or www.motorist.org.

AMRA/MAP will have a booth at the AAPEX show during Industry Week, located at Booth 527 on the upper level. NHTSA will share space with AMRA/MAP, with Borris available at the booth each day.
