Northwood’s 47th Annual International Auto Show Focuses on Consumer Demands in Electric Vehicles

The theme for this year's show is "Electrify the Drive, Sparking a Global Revolution."

MIDLAND, Mich. – The Northwood University International Auto Show (NUIAS), which takes place Oct. 15-17, will feature more than 450 new domestic and imported cars, trucks, vans, experimental, specialty, recreational vehicles and various exciting automotive aftermarket products. The theme for this year’s show is “Electrify the Drive, Sparking a Global Revolution.”

NUIAS General Chair Brandon Postema, states, “This year’s theme, “Electrify the Drive, Sparking a Global Revolution” was chosen not only because of the concentration on electric vehicles but also the focus on the increasing consumer demands of the evolving market. The manufacturers want the consumer to know about all of the new technology and safety features that will make driving the new cars affordable, comfortable and fun. The second part of the theme is based on the fact that new companies, both foreign and domestic, are entering the car manufacturing industry.”

With 55,000 guests annually, the NUIAS is an event for the entire family. Throughout the three-day event, show attendees indulge themselves in the vehicles of the future as well as reminisce with the vehicles of yesterday. The event, including a Classic Car Show on Sunday, Oct. 17, is executed solely by Northwood students. The Auto Show will be held the weekend of Oct. 15-17 on the Michigan Campus of Northwood University in Midland, Mich.

The 47th annual NUIAS will be featuring several “must see” vehicles, according to event organizers. Mitsubishi is bringing its all-electric powered car iMiEV from its Ann Arbor research facility; the European division will have several sleek cars like the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione, the Porsche Carrera GT, a Bentley Continental Super Sport, the Aston Martin Vantage and many more.

On Saturday, Oct. 16, the Auto Show Executive Board has partnered with the Special Olympics of Michigan to host a Bocce Ball Tournament in their honor. The purpose of this partnership is to create awareness of the organization and good will in the community. The tournament will take place from 10 a.m. until noon on the football practice fields between Hantz Stadium and the Hach Student Life Center.

Many exhibits will line the Mall Walk and offer a variety of food, information and entertainment. The Auto Show and parking are free and open to the public.
