Suppliers Bring ‘Safe Vehicles Save Lives’ Exhibit to Washington

The display will feature diagnostic tools, mechanical inspections and visual inspections that can quickly assess various vehicle systems and determine maintenance needed to improve vehicle safety.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association (MEMA) and the Automotive Aftermarket Suppliers Association (AASA), together with member companies Delphi Corp., Robert Bosch LLC and SPX Corp., are pleased to bring the exhibit “Safe Vehicles Save Lives” to The Washington Auto Show on Jan. 26. The exhibit will be located in booth 100 in the Safety section of the Advanced Technology SuperHighway.

The display will feature diagnostic tools, mechanical inspections and visual inspections that can quickly assess various vehicle systems and determine maintenance needed to improve vehicle safety. Such tools and inspections can identify problems with key components such as brakes, headlights and signal devices, tires, mirrors, seat belts and airbags and the fuel and exhaust systems.

“There is no doubt that advances in vehicle safety technology are saving lives on America’s roads,” said Steve Handschuh, AASA’s president and chief operating officer. “However, tens of thousands of individuals are still losing their lives in motor vehicle crashes. As vehicles age, it is imperative that they be properly inspected and maintained to improve safety and performance.”

Handschuh also noted that MEMA and AASA support implementation of a national vehicle safety inspection program. Many states have existing programs, though specifics vary from state to state. “A uniform, national program implemented by the states will help identify potential safety issues and help keep the 247 million cars on the road today operating more safely and efficiently.”
