News outlets have reported this morning that Wall Street financier Steven Rattner, the man President Obama tapped to lead the Automotive Task Force panel, has stepped down after a little less than five months on the job.

Rattner, 56, was named lead adviser for the committee that will oversee reorganization efforts at General Motors and Chrysler in late February. In recent weeks, news outlets have linked Rattner to a corruption probe of the pensions industry. Quadrangle, the private equity firm Rattner founded, is being questioned in connection with New York pension fund investments.

During his short time in his role as head of the Task Force, Rattner oversaw bankruptcy procedures at General Motors and Chrysler and was also said to be responsible for the firing of former GM Chairman Rick Wagoner.

A date has not yet been set for Rattner’s departure, but media outlets have reported that former USW Special Assistant Ron Bloom will take over when he does.
