MILWAUKEE — Johnson Controls saw its ranking increase to number 58 in this year’s just-released FORTUNE 500, up from number 72 in 2008. This is Johnson Controls’ highest ranking ever on this list. The rankings were released this week, and will be seen in the May 4 issue of FORTUNE magazine. This marks Johnson Controls’ 32nd consecutive FORTUNE 500 appearance since 1978.

The Fortune 500 listing is based on financial statements filed by U.S. incorporated companies with a U.S. government agency. This includes private companies and cooperatives that file a 10-K and mutual insurance companies that file with state regulators. Excluded are private companies not filing with a government agency; companies incorporated outside the U.S.; companies owned or controlled by other U.S. companies that file with a government agency; and U.S. companies owned or controlled by foreign companies.
