American Tire Distributors Acquires Gray’s Wholesale Tire Distributors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — American Tire Distributors Inc. (ATD) has acquired the assets of Remington Tire Distributors, dba Gray’s Wholesale Tire Distributors.

Gray’s Wholesale Tire Distributors was founded by Harold Gray in 1975 in Fort Worth, Texas. Steve Gray, the founder’s son, joined the company in 1976. In the same year, Gray’s opened a second distribution center in Houston, Texas. Steve Gray has been president and chairman of the company since 1988. He will join American Tire Distributors and will focus on customer development.

According to ATD, the acquisition will further enhance its service level to tire retailers across the states of Texas and Oklahoma. Gray’s operated two wholesale distribution centers in Texas — one in Houston and one in Fort Worth. These distribution centers service more than 3,000 customers across Texas and Oklahoma.

"American Tire Distributors began servicing tire retailers across Texas and Oklahoma in July of 2004," said Richard "Dick" Johnson, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of American Tire Distributors. "Since that time, we have invested in our facilities, our people and our customers and, as a result, we have gained new customers and market share. The acquisition of Gray’s is another investment that will enable American Tire Distributors to better serve our customers in these two states," Johnson added.
