NORTHVILLE, MI — ZF, a supplier of automotive driveline and chassis technology, plans to build a new suspension components manufacturing plant in Newton, N.C. ZF Lemforder Corp. — the car chassis division of ZF — will operate the plant.

Construction on the 150,000-square-foot building is scheduled to begin immediately, with opening expected during spring 2005. The company is investing an estimated $30 million in the plant, which will create about 200 jobs.

“This new facility is a key part of our suspension components strategy in North America,” said Jim Stacey, President and COO, ZF Lemforder Corp. Car Chassis Technology Division. “This new plant provides us with the space we need today, and allows the opportunity to add future business.”

The new plant will create additional space within the suspension components division and increase efficiency, said the company. ZF is also expanding its facilities in Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Guadalajara, Mexico and the ZF Technical Center in Northville, Mich.

In February, the company announced that it would move operations out of one of two Duncan, SC, plants due to lack of space to expand and meet demand. According to Frank Buscemi, corporate communications director for ZF’s North American operations, some of the jobs may be moved from the Duncan plant to the new facility.
