MIDLAND, MI — Dr. David Long, vice president of operations and enrollment for Northwood University, has been named chancellor and COO of the school. Long will serve as COO of the Michigan, Florida and Texas campuses, University College and the Margaret Chase Smith Library, with responsibility for overall guidance of enrollment management at the university.

“David’s extraordinary background in enrollment management has enabled the university to develop its current trustee-guided growth implementation plan for which he is immediate liaison with the board,” said Dr. David Fry, Northwood president and CEO.

Long started his career at Northwood in 1992 as director of admissions. He created a merit scholarship aid process for the university, the first of its kind. He has worked in higher education for more than 19 years.

Northwood has also named Dr. Timothy Nash provost of the Michigan campus. Nash, who served as dean of the Richard DeVos Graduate School of Management at Northwood, was named provost on June 1.

Nash joined Northwood in 1980. He is an associate professor of economics and business for the undergraduate program and is an associate professor of economics and public policy at the DeVos Graduate School of Management. He is an adjunct scholar at the Mackinac Center for Public Policy in Midland, Mich.

Replacing Nash, Dr. William Busby steps back into the role of dean for the Richard DeVos Graduate School of Management. Busby will serve as the operating officer, and will work closely with Fry to build a leadership successor plan for DeVos. He will also work with an internal support board to establish the first board of governors for DeVos.

Busby joined Northwood in 1992 as a chair in the graduate school, and later became dean of the program. Busby has 14 years of managerial experience, having served as vice president and general manager of the American Can Co., and as senior vice president of Lily-Tulip, Inc. He also has 10 years of academic experience, with an emphasis in strategy.
