College Offers Computer-Based Tests for Automotive Technicians

The Victoria College ACT Testing Center in Victoria, Texas, is participating in a new pilot program to gauge automotive technician interest in taking certification exams via computer testing.

VICTORIA, Texas — The Victoria College ACT Testing Center in Victoria, Texas, is participating in a new pilot program to gauge automotive technician interest in taking certification exams via computer testing.

The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) is offering certification tests in the following areas: automobile series, advanced level and parts.

The computer-based tests are available only at secure, proctored test centers such as the college’s ACT Center because the integrity of the certification process demands a more secure testing method than can be provided online.

Registration for the summer series of tests is available July 6 through Aug. 9. To register, call 1-800-525-6929. Testing dates are available July 19 through Aug. 15 and the registration fee is $68. The regular and re-certification test fee is $35 each and the advance level test is $70. Re-certification test fees have a $90 maximum. One registration fee covers the entire two-week testing period.

“This computer-based testing format was developed in response to industry requests for more access to National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence certification tests,” said Ronald Weiner, ASE president, in a press release. “By offering this format in addition to the traditional paper-and-pencil twice-annual test administrations, we have greatly increased the availability of achieving certification.”
