TORRANCE, CA — This week Vic Edelbrock, Jr. carried on a proud tradition for his family-owned business — the presentation of its annual scholarship award. Edelbrock gave automotive student Casey Cox a check for $5,594 as the recipient of the 2004 Vic Edelbrock Sr. Scholarship Award. Cox, 19, of Hays, Kan., is a student at the Northwest Kansas Technical College in Goodland, Kan.

Edelbrock, president and CEO of Torrance, Calif.-based Edelbrock Corp., began the scholarship program with Northwest Kansas Technical College in 1996 to honor his father, Vic Sr., who founded the company in 1938. Vic Sr. was born in Eudora, Kan., so Vic Jr. decided to set up the annual scholarship program with a school offering an automotive curriculum in Kansas. Students in the college’s two-year “Auto Technology Program” are eligible for the scholarship.

“Partnering with Northwest Kansas Technical College on the Vic Edelbrock Sr. Scholarship Program has a very special meaning to me,” said Vic Edelbrock, Jr. “Not only do they have an excellent automotive curriculum, but it’s also a great way for us to help an automotive student while honoring my father. We’re thrilled with Casey, this year’s recipient. He’s into horsepower, racing and working on cars. He’s the perfect choice.”

During the selection process, Cox was noted for his leadership skills and love of racing.

Cox and his family were flown out to Edelbrock headquarters in Torrance, Calif., and were given a tour of the facility, gifts and the scholarship award.

“What an incredible facility,” said Cox. “When you see how much engineering and quality work goes into their products, it makes you respect them even more. Meeting Vic Edelbrock at his factory and getting this scholarship is a dream come true.”
