LYON STATION, PA — East Penn Manufacturing was recently honored by Defense Supply Center in Richmond, Va., as one of the government’s best suppliers. East Penn supplies lead-acid batteries to the Department of Defense and other government agencies.

The supply center, located in Richmond, Va., purchases nearly 850,000 items used by the military and other government agencies. These items include a mix of military-unique and commercially available items supporting more than 1,300 major weapon systems.

East Penn was recognized with the honor at an Automated Best Value System award ceremony held during the center’s annual business conference in June. East Penn Vice President Dan Fetherolf accepted the gold medal on behalf of the company from the commander of the supply center, Navy Rear Adm. Michael J. Lyden.

To qualify as Automated Best Value System medallists, firms must have met stringent quality and delivery requirements established by the Defense Logistics Agency. A computerized program, the Automated Best Value system, collects a vendor’s past performance data and translates it into a numeric score. To qualify for a gold medal, East Penn had to have a perfect score of 100 for delivery and performance.
