Former Advance Marketing Exec Takes VP Position at Ad Agency

Phil Akin, the former director of marketing for Advance Auto Parts, has joined Hellman Associates as vice president of new business development. Hellman Associates is a full-service advertising and marketing agency, and a member of the American Association of Advertising Agencies.

WATERLOO, IOWA — Phil Akin, the former director of marketing for Advance Auto Parts, has joined Hellman Associates as vice president of new business development.

Hellman Associates is a full-service advertising and marketing agency, and a member of the American Association of Advertising Agencies. The agency, founded by Robert Hellman, Sr. in 1967, has more than 400 clients worldwide and specializes in the strategic and creative development of print, interactive, Web site development, television, radio, illustration and animation on a project-by-project or complete campaign basis.

Akin had been with Advance Auto Parts since 1999. Prior to that time, he founded Duds’n Suds, and grew it into a retail chain of 120 laundromat/entertainment center stores in 30 U.S. states, Canada, Ireland and the UK. Akin sold his interest in the company in 1993.
