MEMA Aftermarket Recaps Maine Right to Repair Update

MEMA Aftermarket Provides Maine Right to Repair Update

MEMA opposes the Maine legislature advancing a law that would undo major parts of the right-to-repair referendum.

MEMA Aftermarket Suppliers provided an industry update on the Maine Right to Repair Issue.

As MEMA Aftermarket Suppliers’ work on the REPAIR Act (H.R. 906) in Congress gains traction, the association said it has also been monitoring state-level progress on the right to repair, noting that, in 2023, voters in Maine approved a vehicle right-to-repair referendum, with an overwhelming 84% majority.

“Now, at automakers’ urging, the Maine legislature is advancing a law that would undo major parts of this popular referendum. We cannot allow Maine voters’ will to be subverted. MEMA Aftermarket Suppliers is investing supplier funds and coordinating lobbying activities with our right-to-repair industry partners to ensure the voters’ choice is protected,” said MEMA Aftermarket Suppliers President Paul McCarthy.

“MEMA’s advocacy team, with our members’ help, has worked hard to build momentum behind the right-to-repair issue and the REPAIR Act. We will stay focused on growing it. This automaker challenge in Maine is a timely reminder of the importance of our federal efforts and the comprehensive, 50-state solution the REPAIR Act provides,” McCarthy added.
