DENSO Announces Organizational and Executive Changes

The changes represent the company's shift from an auto parts supplier to supporting a mobility-centered society.

DENSO Corporation announced significant changes to its organizational structure and executive roles, effective January 1, 2024. These changes were revealed during the “DENSO Dialog Day 2023” event.

The company’s shift from being a traditional Tier 1 auto industry supplier to one that supports a broader mobility-centered society is at the heart of these changes, Denso said. The company said it aims to maximize value not only for vehicles but for the entire mobility society. This transformation involves three key challenges: evolving mobility, strengthening foundational technology and creating new value.

As part of the executive restructuring, DENSO will appoint two executive vice presidents who will oversee major management resources in two areas to accelerate growth strategies. Additionally, the company is introducing a chief innovation officer (CIO) position, to be held by Yasuhiko Yamazaki, who will also be promoted to executive vice president. Yamazaki’s role will focus on technology and human resources.

The organizational changes include:

Creation of the “Electric Sora-Mobi Business Promotion Department” within the Electrification Business Group, aimed at advancing the electric propulsion unit business for aerial mobility. This new department will focus on future mass production, integrating advanced development, production technology, and quality assurance.

Consolidation of the module and power card divisions within the Advanced Devices Business Group into the Electrification Business Group. This move is intended to expand the inverter business’s vertical lineup from electric drive systems to components such as power modules, catering to diverse customer needs in electric mobility options like HEVs, PHEVs, BEVs, and FCEVs.

The merging of the UX1 Innovation Center Dept. within the Mobility Electronics Business Group and the human research and UX development functions within the Research and Development Center. This merger will form the “CX2 Center Department,” aiming to develop innovative user experiences (UX) and customer experiences (CX) that align with the mobility society.

Establishment of a “Hydrogen Business Development Division” to strengthen DENSO’s hydrogen business, leveraging the company’s expertise in thermal management technology and advanced material technology. This division will focus on connecting industries using hydrogen as a core element and linking various types of energy to move towards a carbon-neutral society.
