MEMA Supports FTC Decision to Grant 5.9 GHz Band Waiver

MEMA Supports FTC Decision to Grant 5.9 GHz Band Waiver

Association says move would allow for wider utilization of connected vehicle technologies.

MEMA, the Vehicle Suppliers Association, has issued a statement in support of the Federal Communication Commission’s decision to grant a waiver of the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) rules to allow parties to use cellular vehicle-to-everything (C-V2X) technology in the upper 5.9 GHz Band.

Yesterday’s FCC decision will help encourage and ensure full deployment and utilization of available spectrum for a wider range of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and other advanced vehicle safety technologies. However, MEMA says it continues to urge the FCC to act quickly to adopt final rules to ensure full deployment and utilization of the band.

Vehicle Suppliers are critical in the ongoing development and implementation of vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V), vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I), and vehicle-to-pedestrian (V2P) technologies. The industry supports a policy framework that provides an overall comprehensive, strategic and meaningful plan to prepare the U.S. for a technologically advanced transportation future.
