Axalta Appoints New Vice President And President For Europe, Middle East And Africa

Matthias Schönberg’s role will be to drive the EMEA region’s growth strategy, joining Axalta from Continental AG, where he held numerous leadership positions including, most recently, CEO of its ContiTech Fluid Technology business and executive vice president of Continental AG.

Axalta - Matthias SchönbergAxalta Coating Systems, a global supplier of liquid and powder coatings, has appointed Matthias Schönberg as vice president of Axalta and president of its Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region. He takes up his position on Oct. 1.

Schönberg’s role will be to drive the EMEA region’s growth strategy. He joins Axalta from Continental AG, where he held numerous leadership positions including, most recently, CEO of its ContiTech Fluid Technology business and executive vice president of Continental AG. During Schönberg’s 17 year tenure with Continental AG, he was well versed in dealing with multi-brand, multi-channel and distributor-oriented business models as well as working closely with automotive OEMs.

Charlie Shaver, Axalta’s chairman and CEO, said, “Matthias’ extensive senior leadership roles over the past 14 years in Europe, as well North and South America, in the automotive and automotive aftermarket sectors bring an exceptional combination of skills to Axalta. Schönberg holds a master’s of business administration, corporate finance and tax from the University of Bayreuth, Germany.
