Intercultural Business Skills In Korea

In this audio interview from Global Business Professor, Corey Nelson, a trainer with Berlitz and cultural consultant, answers questions about business relationships in Korea, and different decision-making patterns.

Global Business Professor’s latest audio interview, “Intercultural Business Skills in Korea,” features Corey Nelson, a cultural consultant, university professor, Korean culture expert and trainer with Berlitz. He has spent the past 14 years living and working in South Korea and is fluent in Korean.

In the 10-minute audio interview, Nelson discusses and answers these questions:

  • What’s an important rule to remember in a business relationship that is different from the West?
  • Every culture has its own decision-making patterns. How does Korea’s usually proceed?
  • Most cultures have a fundamental basic rule of how they approach business. How should foreign companies approach Korean companies?

Nelson is a cultural consultant, university professor and Korean culture expert. He has spent the past 14 years living and working in South Korea and is fluent in Korean.

Nelson worked for many years in the human resource and international sales departments at Aekyung Petrochemical as the only non-Korean manager in the organization. He also taught marketing and organizational behavior at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies in Seoul, Korea.

While in Seoul, Korea, he founded a global trading company focused on importing and exporting industrial chemicals and hops among Mexico, Korea, Japan, New Zealand and the U.S., as well as a skincare line.

Upon returning to his home state of Minnesota, he resumed his teaching career at the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota, where he currently teaches marketing classes to both undergraduate and graduate students.

Nelson holds an Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from the University of Sejong Syracuse (the first accredited MBA program in Korea) and a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of North Dakota.
