Accuride’s Jd Marhevko Presented With ASQ’s 2016 Shainin Medal

ASQ established the Shainin Medal in 2003 to recognize the development and application of creative or unique approaches in the improvement of product and service quality or reliability.

Accuride Corp. has announced that global quality organization ASQ has honored Jd Marhevko, vice president, Quality/Lean Management Systems and EHS for Accuride, with the ASQ’s Shainin Medal, the highest distinction for innovation from the organization. ASQ established the Shainin Medal in 2003 to recognize the development and application of creative or unique approaches in the improvement of product and service quality or reliability. The Medal is named for Dorian Shainin, a leading authority on product quality and reliability.

Accuride - Jd MarhevkoMarhevko’s award certificate cites her creative, three-dimensional approach to making often complex quality principles easy to learn.

“Full of passion and energy about quality, Dorian Shainin had a unique ability to break things down and make them easy to understand and apply in the real world,” said Marhevko. “I’ve attempted to apply those lessons by creating tools to help others implement the Hoshin Kanri planning model at a tactical level. By making the process easier to learn and apply, I hope to continue Dorian’s legacy. I’m deeply honored to be chosen by my peers to receive this award.”

Nominator Richard Shainin, executive vice president, Shainin – The Red X Co., reflected on Marhevko’s award: “While he was a developer of people and ideas – and a true leader when it came to quality and reliability – mostly I remember my father Dorian as a teacher. I believe Jd shares his passion for honing and refining techniques to make them elegantly simple. She reflects his gift for teaching others to enhance their ability to achieve great things.”

In May, Marhevko will be recognized prior to ASQ’s 2016 World Conference on Quality and Improvement in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She is one of 10 recipients of the Shainin Medal since its inception in 2004 with the initial winner, Carl A. Bennett. Marhevko is the third woman to receive the medal.
