2-Day San Antonio Event To Benefit Both Students And Community

The CarFest event, put on by San Antonio’s Community of Automotive Professionals, will feature on-site auto repairs done for local charities, youth interactive areas, consumer educational clinics, automotive trade school displays, retail shopping and a chance to win one of 10 cars.

CarFest - LogoSan Antonio’s Community of Automotive Professionals (CAP) has announce its first-ever CarFest to be held Friday, April 15th and Saturday, April 16th at the Joe and Harry Freeman Coliseum. The free two-day festival is open to the public and includes activities for all ages. There will be on-site auto repairs done for local charities, youth interactive areas, consumer educational clinics, automotive trade school displays, retail shopping and a chance to win one of 10 cars.

During CarFest, some of San Antonio’s finest automotive mechanics and technicians will showcase their skills as they repair 25 vehicles for area residents identified and selected through regional charitable organizations. Working alongside these experienced professionals, automotive students from North East Independent School District (NEISD) and Brownsville Independent School District (BISD) will learn job-related skills and gain hands-on experience as they assist with the repairs. In addition, the Alamo Area Boy Scouts will have an opportunity to pursue an Automotive Maintenance Merit badge.

To promote area job growth and enrichment, four trade schools will be awarded a total of $100,000 in cash, equipment and supplies to go toward education. A highlight of the festival will be drawings every two hours for one of 10 free automobiles to be given away to lucky CarFest attendees who must be present to win. For the car enthusiasts, the Coliseum will be full of attractions, such as car clubs, Snap On’s “Tools of Triumph” Big Rigs, a Kid’s Car Corner and automotive seminars for professionals and laypersons alike.

“It was the desire of many in the automobile industry to collectively give back to our community, and what a fun way to do it. With CAP’s core values of education, integrity, community and excellence, and with the tremendous support of our presenting sponsor Jasper Engines, we are pleased to offer CarFest to our community,” said Mark Colaw, CAP member and chairman of the event’s development team.
