DENSO Spark Plugs Power 3 Class Wins At NHRA Winternationals

DENSO says its parts lent a competitive edge to Greg Anderson, Dan Fletcher and Steve Williams, each winning his class at the 56th annual Circle K Winternationals over President's Day weekend.

Denso - LogoIn the debut weekend of its re-entry into National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) racing, DENSO says its parts lent a competitive edge to Greg Anderson, Dan Fletcher and Steve Williams, each winning his class at the 56th annual Circle K Winternationals over President’s Day weekend.

Equipped with DENSO spark plugs, four-time world champion Greg Anderson ran a 6.617 second ET with a 207.85 mph top speed to take the win in Pro Stock. In the final round, Anderson edged out his Summit Racing teammate, Jason Line, also running DENSO spark plugs. Anderson’s win was of special note since it marked the first Pro Stock drag race in the new electronic fuel injection (EFI) era.

Also at Pomona, Dan Fletcher took home his 95th career win with a 10.474 second 128.36 mph run in Stock Eliminator. In Super Comp, Steve Williams’ dragster won class honors running 8.895 seconds at 186.25 mph. The engines in both of these class winners were sparked by DENSO plugs.

DENSO Iridium Racing spark plugs best demonstrate their performance advantage during hard acceleration, with patented features that reduce the risk of melting the plug in extreme NHRA racing conditions, the company says.

“Patented DENSO technology and our global motorsports experience help us deliver purpose-built racing spark plugs that make a real difference in those critical seconds in quarter-mile runs,” said Larry Fidance, marketing manager at DENSO Products and Services Americas. “Drag racing is probably the toughest environment for any spark plug, and these three class wins prove DENSO reliability, durability and performance.”

DENSO is the title rights sponsor of the 2016 National Hot Rod Association Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, and the fourth of 24 races in the series is the DENSO Spark Plug NHRA Nationals, April 1-3, in Las Vegas.
