LAS VEGAS – Premium synthetic lubricant and performance chemical manufacturer, Royal Purple, provided unexpected and unforgettable holiday surprises at this year’s Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl (RPLVB) including a donation to a local veteran and the conclusion of the Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl Quarterback Challenge at Sam Boyd Stadium.
In addition to the fierce on-field athletic competition between the Mountain West Colorado State Rams and Pac-12 Utah Utes, the Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl Quarterback Challenge came to a merry conclusion at halftime. A Santa Claus-dressed Elvis impersonator was an on-field assistant to Bridgette Almada of Hillsborough, N.J., as she attempted to throw a series of footballs through targets that ultimately resulted in Almada winning a new, 305 hp all-wheel-drive 2015 Subaru WRX STI. In the spirit of the holidays, Santa Elvis made his own rules on the last throw attempt and presented Almada with the keys to the car courtesy of Royal Purple.
Also during the game, the Military Warriors Support Foundation, an organization which provides housing support, family and financial mentoring to combat wounded veterans and their families, gave away a mortgage-free home to Tim Lipscomb, a veteran of the Army from Fernley, Nev. During the giveaway, Royal Purple Vice President of Marketing, Branded Products & Packaging Division Leah Herrington, presented Lipscomb and his family with a check for $5,000 to furnish their new home, as well as up to $5,000 in tools and supplies to furnish the home’s garage, including donations from Race Deck and Snap-on.
“We wanted to make a big splash for our second year as the title sponsor of the Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl,” said Bryan Yourdon, Royal Purple president. “It is an honor to provide furnishings for the veteran’s home and garage, and also add an exciting contest element to the halftime festivities.”
The Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl is one of 11 bowl games owned and operated by ESPN Events. 2014 marks the 23rd year for the Las Vegas Bowl and Royal Purple’s second year as the title sponsor. There were 33,067 fans in attendance, who saw the Utah Utes defeat the Colorado State Rams 45-10.
