CARSTAR Annual Golf Outing Raises More Than $14,000 For The Fisher House Foundation

Wounded Warrior SFC (Retired) Michael Schlitz was honored as a special guest.

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The CARSTAR Cincinnati Business Group hosted its 12th annual Golf Outing at TPC River’s Bend on Monday, Aug. 25, with the proceeds benefiting the Fisher House Foundation.

The event, which raised more than $14,000, honored the sacrifice of our military men and women. The outing opened in true American style, with skydivers delivering the American flag, a B-25 flyover, the playing of Taps to honor fallen soldiers, and a performance of the National Anthem.

SFC (retired) Michael Schlitz, a double amputee who suffered burns over 85 percent of his body while fighting in Iraq, was in attendance. Schlitz took part in the opening ceremonies, and gave a speech at the awards dinner, where this year’s contribution was made to the Fisher House Foundation.

The Fisher House is “a home away from home” for families of patients receiving medical care at major military and VA medical centers. There are 62 Fisher Houses in operation on 23 military installations and 23 VA Medical Centers. There are four in the greater Cincinnati area: Cincinnati VA Medical Center, Kentucky Blanchfield ACH, Fort Campbell and Wright-Patterson AFB, Dayton.

Since its inception in 1990, The Fisher House has served more than 200,000 families and provided more than 5.2 million days of lodging. This has saved families greater than $235 million in lodging costs, plus savings on subsistence and transportation costs.
