Every so often, our editorial staff selects one aftermarket industry professional to get to know a little better. Participants are asked to respond to a series of questions that can be answered in about the same amount of time you might spend chatting at the office coffee pot or waiting for an elevator. This week, we hear from Chris Pacey, VP of Sales/General Manager of his family’s company, Miami, Fla.-based National Performance Warehouse Companies. Read on to find out why his aftermarket industry resume is so short, but why his history in this industry will be long.
What was your first job in the industry?
I definitely have a short resume. This has been the only job that I’ve had until now and hopefully, I can keep it that way. I have been fortunate enough to work in every department in our company, which I feel gives me a distinct advantage in my position.
What do you like best about your current position?
I enjoy getting to work closely with my father (Larry) and brother (John) on a day-to-day basis. I know that sometimes family operations don’t work out too well, but I think ours works out great as we each have a mutual respect for each other and each bring something different to the table. It is also very exciting to be a part of a company that continues to grow.
Did you initially intend to pursue a career in the aftermarket? If not, what drew you to the industry and what keeps you here?
No, I did not. What started off as giving my father a hand, developed into a passion for the industry. Now, I couldn’t envision myself doing anything else.
What do you do when you are not at work?
I spend most of my free time with my wife, Aileen, and 20-month-old son, Justin. He keeps my hands full, but I enjoy every second of it. I also enjoy getting out on the golf course whenever I can.
What one word best sums up your personality?
Motivated.
What kind of car do you drive?
Black 2011 Camaro.
Who was your childhood hero?
Being a huge basketball fan, I would have to go with the best, Michael Jordan.
What is your favorite quote/mantra/motto?
“There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure.” – Colin Powell
