Every so often, our editorial staff selects one aftermarket industry professional to get to know a little better. In this new feature, participants are asked to respond to a series of questions that can be answered in about the same amount of time you might spend chatting at the office coffee pot or waiting for an elevator. This week, we hear from Lauren Mencarini, creative director, Permatex. Mencarini has been with Permatex since 1999, and will be wrapping up her tenure at the company at the end of this month, after 13 years in the brand’s in-house creative department.
What was your first job in the industry?
A graphic designer for Loctite Corp.
What do you like best about your current position?
The many facets of my job. From the development of marketing materials, including packaging, ad campaigns, catalogs, websites, brand identities, tradeshow graphics, etc., to team-, project- and budget-management. I find it very challenging and rewarding. I must say I have never been bored.
Did you initially intend to pursue a career in the aftermarket? If not, what drew you to the industry and what keeps you here?
No, but the opportunity presented itself. At the time, Loctite wanted a graphic designer focused on the automotive aftermarket business segment. I was more than willing having been an auto enthusiast since I was a kid. I saw it as great opportunity. What keeps me here? A passion for what I do.
What do you do when not at work?
I enjoy photography, home decorating, tackling home improvement projects, shopping, and of course, spending time with my family – especially my baby nephew.
What one word best sums up your personality?
Motivated.
Who was your childhood hero?
Definitely my Dad. My artistic ability and interest in cars came from him.
Who is on your dream dinner party guest list?
George Clooney (and forget the guest list).
Favorite quote/mantra/motto?
“Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” – Ferris Bueller (John Hughes)
