Popular Speaker Derek Kaufman to Discuss Powertrain Trends and Reman Opportunities at BIG R Show

Derek Kaufman has worked in the transportation industry for 35 years, and will use this expertise to discuss "Powertrain Trends and the Reman Opportunities They Represent" on Oct. 28.

CHANTILLY, Va. – Bill Gager, president of the Automotive Parts Remanufacturers Association (APRA) announced that Derek Kaufman of Mission Motors, a San Francisco-based developer of electric drive systems, will speak to attendees of the 2012 International BIG R Show on Sunday morning, Oct. 28. His presentation will address “Powertrain Trends and the Reman Opportunities They Represent.”

Kaufman stated, “The constant increases in EPA regulations and the goal of reducing heavy truck fuel consumption by over 20 percent by 2014 are driving some big changes in heavy-duty powertrain design.”

For 35 years, Derek Kaufman has worked in the transportation industry with positions ranging from vice president of marketing and product planning for Freightliner Corp.; senior VP of sales, marketing and customer support for Hino Trucks; president of Diesel Technology Co., a subsidiary of Penske Corp.; and VP of fixed operations for Smart USA. In addition to these corporate positions, Kaufman is an entrepreneur who founded C3 Network to help clients launch new products. For 12 years, C3 worked on a variety of projects to introduce leading-edge technology to the transportation industry.

In 2010, Derek joined a Bay Area consortium of investors to head up Glacier Bay Technology as its CEO. He led the sale of company assets to a major transportation sector OEM. He is now the chief operation officer of Mission Motors, a San Francisco-based developer of electric drive systems.

Gager commented, “Derek Kaufman’s presentation will give us a look to the future and some suggestions on how we can capitalize on these changes.”
