In our annual review of the industry’s top 20 store owners, a recurring theme is reinforced: the big get bigger. This past year represented the largest growth (up 6.2 percent) in total stores owned since we began charting the growth of the top 20 in 2003. MEMA Realigns Personnel to Strengthen Aftermarket, Communications; Gardner, Beck Promoted to New Positions

The Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association (MEMA) announced today the realignment of staff to strengthen its aftermarket market segment, the Automotive Aftermarket Suppliers Association (AASA), and the overall communications program for MEMA and its market segment associations. Chris Gardner, formerly vice president of strategic services and technology, has been promoted to vice president of AASA. Margaret Beck, current director of communications, has been promoted to senior director of communications.

Speed Tech Performance to Offer Discounts to Fire, Police, Military Personnel

Speed Tech Performance (STP) has announced the development of a worldwide discount purchasing program for fire, police and military personnel. Effective immediately all products manufactured by STP will be offered at a 5 percent discount to currently employed police, firefighters and military service men and women.

Delphi Makes Personnel Changes in Aftermarket Division

Delphi recently announced two personnel moves for Delphi Product & Service Solutions, the company’s aftermarket division. Frank Ofiero was named director of sales & marketing, service operations. Julie Pongrac has been appointed global marketing manager responsible for leading the product, price and sales strategy, and managing the thermal, vehicle electronics, undercar and bulk product managers.

BREAKING NEWS: Pronto, RPM Group Announce Merger

Two of the aftermarket’s programmed distribution groups — National Pronto Association and The RPM Group — today announced plans to merge. This is the second merger among program groups in as many months. In mid-January 2005, Parts Plus and IAPA announced their plans to join forces.
