Global Brand Manager
GM Genuine Parts and ACDelco
Heather Waszczenko has recognized the importance of focusing on the customer since the beginning of her career – and understands how doing so makes every other part of her job easier.
Since Waszczenko joined General Motors Aftersales’ organization eight years ago, she says she has been able to apply her marketing expertise to the dynamic and challenging aftersales industry. In addition, she is proud to have had the opportunity to connect, empower and mentor many women over the years. “From our interns to experienced employees to managers looking to broaden their experience and contribution, this is probably the most gratifying long term,” she says. “Some of the women I have mentored have taken extraordinary leaps professionally.”
Waszczenko’s advice to women who want to succeed in the industry is a best-practices primer. “Trust your gut. Seek out a mentor. Learn as much as you can about your product and your customer. Listen to your customers. And develop the strongest team you can that shares your passion for the business.”
Waszczenko believes in the power of education. “It’s important to recognize the power that secondary education plays in career consideration, to allow qualified candidates to pursue career growth in the ever-changing world of the aftermarket.”
