Doreen Slayter already had an established career as a dental assistant when in 1984 she decided she was ready for a change. She joined what was then known as Triad, the predecessor to what we know today as Epicor, as a member of its first cataloging team.
It was supposed to be a short-term thing, she says. “They hired all of us as temps because they thought ‘oh, the electronic catalog we will just enter all those catalogs and in six months they’ll all be done.’ We ended up with over a hundred people and it’s still thriving and going strong. I took an entry level job, and I was there for 15 years. I worked my way up to be a director through a lot of hard work.”
Her best advice to be able succeed as she has?
“I would just say just treat people the way you want to be treated. I did not go to college. I just worked hard. Obviously, there were challenges, but I think I got where I am today by just treating people kind and treating people with respect.”
