University Of The Aftermarket Foundation Announces 2015 Bosch Automotive Scholarship Recipients

Bosch donated $100,000 to the University of the Aftermarket Foundation to fund scholarships over the next several years.

University-of-the-Aftermarket-Foundation-LogoThe University of the Aftermarket Foundation recently announced the recipients of scholarships provided by a grant from the Bosch Community Fund and Robert Bosch LLC, Automotive Aftermarket North America. Fifteen automotive technology students received the scholarships.

Bosch - LogoBosch donated $100,000 to the University of the Aftermarket Foundation to fund scholarships over the next several years. To be eligible for the scholarship, the applicant must be a full-time student in an automotive, heavy-duty or diesel technician training program.

Ten students received $2,000 awards:

  • Benjamin Cook of Fairport, New York: attending Alfred State SUNY College of Technology in the heavy equipment, truck and diesel technician program
  • Mitchell Holsten of Stover, Missouri: attending University of Central Missouri in the automotive technology program
  • Zoe Langdon of Bountiful, Utah: attending Universal Technical Institute in the automotive and diesel technology program
  • Marco Munoz Gil of Menlo Park, California: attending Deanza College in the automotive technology program
  • Austin Nelson of Higbee, Missouri: attending State Technical College of Missouri in the medium/heavy diesel program
  • Paola Olguin-Acevedo of Galloway, Ohio: attending Columbus State Community College in the automotive technology program
  • Nicholas Ozgar of Phillipsburg, New Jersey: attending Lincoln Technical Institute in the heavy equipment and truck technology program
  • Phanit Phoutthaphaphone of Plymouth, Minnesota: attending Hennepin Technical College in the automotive technology program
  • Umair Shah of Wheaton, Illinois: attending Southern Illinois University with a planned double major in automotive technology and general management
  • Steve Stein of Crete, Illinois: attending Universal Technical Institute in the automotive and diesel technician program

Five students were awarded $1,000 scholarships:

  • Drew Burger of Rock Falls, Illinois: attending Wyotech in the advanced diesel mechanics and business management program
  • Jacob Crum of Columbia, Missouri: attending Ranken Technical College in the Ford ASSET program
  • Raymond Davis of Manning, South Carolina: attending UTI NASCAR Tech in the automotive program
  • Julian Ferreyra of Clinton, Utah: attending Weber State University in the automotive technology program
  • Brian O’Connor of West Babylon, New York: attending Alfred State SUNY College of Technology in the automotive service technician program

Bosch and the University of the Aftermarket Foundation offered these scholarships to help students in technician programs to prepare for the future automotive workforce. As automotive technology evolves, those in the industry must expand their skill set to develop new concepts and ideas

“Scholarships like these are just one way Bosch supports the future of the aftermarket,” said Odd Joergenrud, regional president North America, Robert Bosch LLC, Automotive Aftermarket. “They encourage students to pursue STEM education and to understand the number of opportunities the automotive market offers,” he said, referring to science, technology, engineering and math. “Because technology is constantly evolving, it is critical that today’s students have the knowledge, background and skills for tomorrow’s industry.”

“These recipients are very appreciative of the generous support from the Bosch Community Fund, and all will use it to support their training for careers in the automotive aftermarket,” said Pete Kornafel, chairman, GAAS-UAF Scholarship Committee. “We look forward to working with Bosch in the future years as well.”
