TRW Increases North American Friction Coverage By 8 Million Vehicles

Product expansion includes many 2014 models, the company adds.

WIXOM, Mich. – TRW’s North American aftermarket division announced that it has increased its friction coverage by 8 million vehicles, including many 2014 models. According to TRW, this news further supports the company’s position as a global leader in the manufacture and supply of braking friction and brings the total market coverage in North America to more than 96 percent.

“Our customers need to have the right parts readily at hand when they are needed. With our in-depth understanding of a complex market, we make it a priority to be first to market with new references,” said Mark Thorpe, TRW’s product group manager, TRW Aftermarket, North America. “By making sure that our range extensions are both timely and appropriate, and by listening to our customers to ensure that we get the right mix, the market can have complete confidence in TRW.”

With a range of more than 860 SKUs, TRW says it now provides premium friction material for a number of the latest models, including: 2014 Audi Q5; 2014 Honda Odyssey; 2014 Chevrolet Impala; 2014 Ford Taurus; 2014 Nissan Murano and 2014 Buick Encore.

Thorpe added, “TRW is a global leader in the design, development and manufacture of original equipment (OE) safety systems and we bring all of this expertise into our aftermarket range. Our main objective is to support our customers with the highest-quality product and to ensure the safety message reaches every level of the supply chain.”

TRW has used its longstanding engineering expertise as a leading OE brake systems manufacturer to ensure the brake pad program offers the most suitable friction formulation for each vehicle application to help optimize safety and performance. For example, the company provides hardware in the box, facilitating optimal installation and on-the-road performance.

TRW’s friction material is made from a formulized mix of ingredients to facilitate a stable friction coefficient and offer excellent braking performance in hot or cold temperatures, at high or low speeds and under difficult or challenging conditions, the company states. According to TRW, this is proven over millions of miles of real-world driving. Providing a dominant offering of chamfered, slotted and shimmed designs, the range comprises ceramic and semi-metallic brake pad sets. For a quieter and more comfortable drive, TRW’s brake pads are fitted with premium shims that act as a damper between the friction material and the brake caliper, the company added.
