GAFFNEY, S.C. — A truck carrying $1 million in new tires caught fire on Tuesday. The fire started after one of the truck’s own tires blew out on Interstate 85 near Gaffney, S.C.
Approximately $200,000 worth of tires on their way to a Michelin distribution center were destroyed in the blaze.
The man driving the truck was unable to contain the fire with a small extinguisher. According to a published report, firefighers worked about 90 minutes before the fire was under control. No injuries were reported.
