AKRON, OHIO — The Timken Co. has joined with Tomorrow’s Technician magazine, to bring its training information to more than 52,000 students across the U.S. In May, Timken provided its technical training DVD “Removing and Installing a Hub Bearing Assembly” to the subscribers of Tomorrow’s Technician, which is provided to approximately 1,000 NATEF-certified schools. The magazine is distributed to students in secondary and post-secondary automotive, heavy-duty and PBE studies.
“The Timken Company believes in the future of the Automotive Aftermarket. We want to support the education of new technicians coming into the business by providing this DVD,” said J. Barry Harris, Timken marketing manager for the automotive aftermarket in North America and South America. We also hope that they will then turn to our website for even more information.”
Timken is widely known as a leading manufacturer of a broad range of bearings, from those so small a microscope is needed for inspection, to those large enough to stand inside, weighing from half an ounce to nine tons. But what many people don’t know is that Timken is also heavily involved in education. “At Timken, our knowledge of friction management and power transmission brings unparalleled value to customers. In fact, we are dedicated to using all we know to improve our customers’ performance,” said Harris.
Timken’s website contains a host of information to help train distributors and professional technicians. The hub training DVD included in the mailing offered a glimpse of the company’s exclusive Tech Series CD, a multimedia tool that helps users get the most out of Timken bearings, seals, hubs and lubricants. A copy can be requested by visiting www.timken.com/techseries .
Also on Timken’s website, technicians can access Tech Tips ( www.timken.com/techtips ), designed to promote safe, proper bearing handling practices for the automotive and heavy-duty markets. Additionally, a range of reference catalogs, handbooks and guides are available as well as detailed product data for bearings, steel and components.
Many instructors were pleased with the quality of the information provided on the DVD. Don Sheets, auto instructor at the McKenzie Career Center said, “I watched the Timken video this morning. The audio and video quality are super! They did a great job. I will use this every year in my steering/suspension curriculum. Thanks.”
Al Atkinson, auto instructor at IGCHS Inlet Grove Community High School in Palm Beach, FL, had this to say, “I would like to thank Timken for the superb effort put forth by their company. When I showed it to the students I suggested later in their careers to remember which manufacturers supported them. Good job and keep up the work. … Thank you.”
Timken’s training information is being distributed to students as part of Tomorrow’s Technician‘s Training Library Kit, which was created to provide informative and timely technical training information free to instructors at the nation’s NATEF-certified automotive schools for use in their classrooms. Tomorrow’s Technician first launched the DVD Technical Training Library program with its April issue. The complete Training Library is scheduled to ship to the schools in August and will contain information on brakes and electrical systems, as well as other technical subjects.
