TI Automotive Releases New High-Performance Fuel Pump for Aftermarket Applications

Designed for engines with more than 500 horsepower, this new fuel pump has been OE-validated for E85 compatibility.

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – TI Automotive has released a new high-performance aftermarket version of its dual-channel, single-stage (DCSS) 39/50 fuel pump for E85/flex-fuel applications. The new pump will be part of TI Automotive’s Walbro brand of performance fuel systems.

The company says the superior flow and pressure capability of this new pump — rated at 450 liters per hour at 13.5 volts and 40 psi — outperforms all currently available high-performance in-tank fuel pumps. It supports engines than 500 horsepower, has been validated to OE specifications and is fully E85 compatible, according to TI Automotive.

"This is a first-of-its-kind, high-performance, high-flow fuel pump with full E85/flex-fuel compatibility," said Doug Thomson, North America aftermarket director, TI Automotive. "It will provide our customers with a level of flexibility that to date had not been available in a replacement application."

The design for the new fuel pump is based on that of the DCSS 39/50, which earned TI Automotive the 2010 Automotive News PACE Award, and features a single impeller with two parallel rows of turbine blades. The blades feed two high-pressure pumping channels, as opposed to a conventional single-stage pump that uses an impeller with a single row of blades at its outer edge. This results in improved hot fuel flow, as well as minimal noise and current use, resulting in efficiency that’s 20 percent higher than conventional pumps, the company says. The DCSS 39/50 requires modifications to system wiring, fuel lines or the fuel module.
