The most widely-read story of aftermarketNews.com this week offered a sneak peak into the Automotive Distribution Network’s joint advisory council meeting where 16 members of the Network’s jobber and service dealer councils hashed out the biggest issues they face today at their shops and stores. Asked to address a number of critical industry issues such as returns, training, cataloging, the two councils spoke openly about their biggest concerns and challenges.

With motorsports marketing being one of the industry’s most popular and successful marketing tools today, it’s no wonder aftermarketNews readers were interested to learn that Ford’s current struggles may be carrying over to its NASCAR sponsorships. A number of big names in racing have left Ford to race for competing teams, leaving the automaker with fewer NASCAR teams than one of its competitors, Chevrolet.

Insider keys to finding and keeping great employees was another topic of high interest to readers this week. In our twice-monthly R. L. Polk & Co.’s Ask the Industry feature we asked a few aftermarket professionals how their companies find quality employees.

As Federal-Mogul inches closer to emerging from Chapter 11, news that the company experienced a $50 million increase in sales this year piqued the interest of many AMN readers. Federal-Mogul reported net sales of $1,549 million for the quarter ending Sept. 30, $49 million more than in the same period of 2005.

Genuine Parts Co. (GPC) also experienced a record-setting third quarter. GPC’s third quarter net income was $121.3 million, an increase of 9 percent, compared to $110.9 million for the third quarter of 2005.
