Editor’s Note: This issue of the Week in Review is being delivered today as a result of the Labor Day holiday. We will resume our normal Friday afternoon schedule this week.

The top story on aftermarketNews last week came from National Pronto Association, which announced the addition of its third new member in August. Pronto’s new member, the C&M Automotive Warehouse is located in Trenton, N.J. and services Mercer and Burlington Counties in New Jersey, as well as Bucks County, Pa.

Motorcar Parts of America (MPA) made an addition to its business last week as well, with the acquisition of certain assets of Suncoast Automotive Products, a privately held company based in Pompano Beach, Fla. MPA acquired Suncoast’s new and remanufactured alternators and starters operation.

Another highly read news item last week was Bridgestone/Firestone North American Tire’s (BFNAT)recall of light truck/SUV and motorcycle tires in the U.S. In both cases, the recalls were because of incorrect sidewall markings. BFNAT said that no “structural or performance safety issues” exist with either product. Just over 6,300 tires in total were recalled.

AMN readers were also interested in the latest Industry Trends Report report from information provider Mitchell International. The third quarter 2008 edition of Mitchell’s Industry Trends Report discusses the recent results of a study that examines the differences in estimates and average severities between traditional, gasoline powered vehicles and their hybrid counterparts. The issue also includes information on various 2008 appraisal values.

The final item in our round-up of the most-viewed articles from the past week features the latest data from “The Pulse” our weekly research feature. Last week’s “Pulse” examined the primary sources general repair shops use for purchasing belts and hose. The majority of shops surveyed cited the jobber as their primary choice.
