ELKHART, Ind. — The Indiana Economic Development Corporation announced this week it will award training assistance to Tenneco in exchange for the manufacturer agreeing to expand its Indiana operations, creating approximately 60 new jobs.
The FORTUNE 500 company plans to invest nearly $6 million to add two new catalytic converter manufacturing lines to its 81,000-square-foot Hoffman Street facility that currently manufactures a variety of automotive parts ranging from muffler and converter stampings to hydroformed exhaust products and catalytic converters.
The Lake Forest, Ill.-based maker of emission control and ride control technologies for original equipment vehicle manufacturers and aftermarket customers is in the process of hiring machine operators, maintenance technicians and managers. The company will provide new and existing employees training in hydraulics, robotics and blue print reading with the help of a $112,500 grant from the state’s Skills Enhancement Fund.
Tenneco, which operates three additional facilities in Indiana in Evansville, Ligonier and Angola, employs more than 21,000 around the world at its 80 manufacturing facilities and 15 engineering centers.
The company is also considering a new facility in Vanderburg County, asking the Vanderburgh County Council for a 10-year tax abatement on more than $3 million worth of manufacturing equipment. Officials say the company would hire 33 people for the facility if it becomes reality, according to Indiana InsideBusiness.
