Long Island City, NY — Standard Motor Products said it has incorporated the Car Care Council’s new 21st century tune-up concept into its marketing and public relations programs. Standard wants to help the automotive aftermarket industry re-define and promote the term “tune-up.”
“Because vehicles have changed so much over the years, we are one-hundred percent committed to supporting the Car Care Council’s efforts to re-define and educate the motorists about what a tune-up consists of today,” said John Nodson, Standard Motor Products’ director of marketing. “This is an area that we feel very strongly about. We will play an active role in promoting the 21st century tune-up.”
Standard Motor Products’ 21st century tune-up marketing activities will include a comprehensive systems checklist that will allow professional service technicians to check current performance levels of essential vehicle systems against required levels. It also consists of a customer interview followed by a series of vehicle inspections. The customer interview gives the professional service technician the opportunity to find out how the customer feels about the vehicle’s performance, how the vehicle is used and a sense of the vehicle’s history. Battery, charging and starting, engine mechanical, powertrain control, fuel, ignition and emissions systems are covered in the comprehensive 33 point check. The inspections are designed to be done in a short time using tools already available to most technicians.
“Vehicle owners ask for tune-ups for a variety of reasons, including improving performance, maintaining reliability, planning a vacation, preparing for winter/summer or because they’re giving the car to a friend or family member, “ said Nodson. “Standard Motor Products’ 21st century tune-up will help professional service technicians get back in the habit of checking the various systems, while helping them develop an annual tune-up program for their customers.”
